Administrative HistoryShortly after the outbreak of the First World War in August 1914 the Government formed a committee to make plans to aid those in distress as a result of the war (both family members of men serving in the armed forces and those whose employment was affected by the war. A National Relief Fund was established, with Edward, Prince of Wales as treasurer, and the Prince issued an appeal on the 7 August to ask for financial support for the Fund. The records in this series relate to Kincardineshire's response to this appeal.
The appeal was also known as the Prince of Wales National Relief Fund or the National Distress Fund.
