Administrative History | Organised by the New Town’s Town Council (the Association of Feuars), public subscriptions were raised to fund the construction of a new Town Hall from 1872: an advertisement that November stated “To erect a hall suitable for the County Town, the Council consider that a sum of about £2000 will be required, and to raise it they must throw themselves on the liberality of the County Gentlemen, the Inhabitants of the Town, persons who, although not resident, still desire by aiding the proposed work to evince friendly feelings towards their native place, and all who, admiring the neighbourhood, feel interest in the improvement and welfare of the Town.” The New Town Hall opened in 1878. The Stonehaven Town Hall Order Confirmation Act 1902 transferred the Town Hall from the Association of Feuars to the Town Council (see AS/Kstn/2/10). |
