Administrative HistoryBased on the work of the local authority of the parish of Insch and its work on water supply and drainage, Insch and Rothney Special Water Supply District was requisitioned by local ratepayers in 1888.

In 1890, Aberdeen County Council approved a loan to them of £1,700 to build a new water supply.

In 1904, the Special Lighting District was set up based on the same boundaries, and in 1905 it borrowed £70 to purchased lamps and pillars.

In 1907, the lamplighter for the district was paid £9 per annum.

Under the powers granted to Special Water Supply Districts in 1907, the streets were named and houses numbered in 1924.

Also based on the Water District boundaries, the Special Scavenging District was set up in 1925, and enlarged in 1935, though all the districts had been enlarged already in 1934.

The Scavenging District was adopted into the county in 1949, and the Drainage and Lighting Districts in 1968.
