Administrative History | Aboyne Special Water Supply District was in place by 1893, and the Special Drainage District followed in 1894, when a system of water and drainage was set up for the village by Sir william Cunliffe Brooks, who enjoyed punning on his surname. The water came from the Glentanar Estate, and use of the plant was granted to the village for thirty years. The drainage system was extended in 1895, with a loan of £3,600 from Aberdeen County Council. The agreement with Sir William expired in 1924, at which point Deeside District Committee bought the entire water plant from the estate for £3,629.
Aboyne Special Lighting District and Special Scavenging District were both formed in 1896.
The Special Scavenging District was handed over to county control in 1949, and the Special Lighting District in 1968, with the Special Drainage District following soon after. |
