Administrative History | The Culter area formed its own Special Water Supply District and Special Drainage District in 1895, for which water was drawn from two springs at Leuchar. Four years later in 1899, Culter Special Lighting District was formed, based on the boundaries of the Special Water Supply District and the Special Drainage District.
Initially the lighting scheme was intended to be electric, but agreement broke down with the company intended to supply the electricity, and the district instead opted for twenty oil lamps.
Culter Special Scavenging District was formed in 1903.
All the Districts were enlarged in 1934, and in 1938, they were combined with Cults Special Districts and enlarged again.
Culter-Cults Special Scavenging District was adopted into the county in 1949, and Culter-Cults lighting and drainage functions were taken over by the County Council in 1968. |
