| Administrative History | Gardenstown Special Water Supply & Drainage District, in the parish of Gamrie, was formed in 1891. The Special Drainage District borrowed £50 7s.6d. to top up a loan to build a new drainage scheme in 1896, and in the same year a Special Scavenging District was formed in 1896. A Special
Lighting District, based on the boundaries of the drainage and water districts, was set up in 1903. In 1913. am additional water supply was built at the cost of £360, and the following year all the Special Districts were enlarged. The water and drainage districts were extended in 1925, at a cost of £280. Hydrants installed for fire fighting purposes were found in 1942 to be of no use, as pressure in the water main was too low. Instead, arrangements had to be made to pump water from the harbour in case of fire. The Special Drainage, Lighting, and Scavenging Districts were all extended in 1955. |
