| Administrative History | Portgordon Special Water Supply & Drainage District, in the parish of Rathven, was formed in 1890, with a starting assessment of 1s. 9 5/8d. in the pound. A Special Scavenging District was proposed in 1896 by Banff District Committee and approved by the County Council. The Special Water Supply District borrowed £584 for extensions in 1901, and the Special Drainage District borrowed £1400 for extensions in the same year. In 1911 a Special Lighting District was formed, based on the same boundaries. The Special Drainage District continued to expand its facilities, borrowing £1500 in 1911 to build a new drainage system, then a further £300 in 1912. The Special Districts were all enlarged in 1914. Proposed water work was deferred in 1930, pending debates on a county water system. The Special Drainage, Scavenging, and Lighting Districts were all extended in 1955. |
