Administrative History | In a settlement dated 30 Dec 1868, Willliam Mackie, feuar of Stonehaven settled his estate under Trust to found and endow an Educational Institution in the Newtown of Stonehaven to be called Mackie Academy (his wife and two sons having predeceased him). It was intended to aid young people to gain a higher education than could be obtained at parish schools. Any money left over after constructing and maintaining the school as to be used in supplementing salaries, which were derived from fees. Precedence was to be given to children from Dunnottar and Fetteresso parishes, who would have half the fees of other children.
The Trust was amalgamated into the Fetteresso and Dunnottar Educational Trust in 1889 under the Educational Endowments (Scotland) Act of 1882. |
