The Council remitted to a committee of the magistrates, the Dean of Guild, the Treasurer and Provost Dingwall, or any three of them, the petition of James Forbes, merchant in Aberdeen, requesting permission to lay a pipe from the Denburn to the ground at Pynernook he had recently feued from Marischal College, and also to erect a bridge over the Denburn at the same ground. (80v - 81r)

The Council granted the application from James Farquharson, student of Divinity, requesting award of Mr John Johnston's bursary, vacated by Mr Alexander Brown, on the recommendation of Dr Brown, Principal and Professor of Divinity. The Council authorised the Master of Mortifications to pay to James Farquharson the sum of £100 Scots yearly for four years, as long as he attended Divinity classes regularly at the University. The Council remitted to a committee of the magistrates, the Dean of Guild and the Treasurer, Provost Leys and Provost Dingwall, or any three of them, to take any action to oppose the introduction in Parliament of the Bill for regulating and improving the fishings in the River Dee and the River Don, drawn up by the heritors of the salmon fishings, and if necessary, to employ solicitors in London to conduct the opposition.
