The Council accepted the resignation of Mr William Duncan from the post of writing master in Aberdeen. The Council directed advertisements to be published inviting persons who could teach writing, book keeping, geography, navigation and arithmetic to appear in the Town Hall on 3 May 1803, and directed Professor Copland, Mr Duncan, present writing master, Baillie Galen, Mr Charles Bannerman, Mr Alexander More, Rev Mr Ross and Dr Hamilton, or any three of them, to examine the candidates. The Council appointed Rev Dr Gordon and Mr James Ross, two of the Town's ministers, along with the Principal and the four teaching masters of Marischal College, to examine the candidates for the post of one of the Ushers of the Grammar School. (119r - 119v)
