The Council resolved not to alter their previous resolutions on the appointment of one of the Ushers of the Grammar School, following a representation from Dr William Lawrence Brown, Principal, and Mr John Stuart and Mr James Beattie junior, two of the Regents of Marischal College and University of Aberdeen. The Council approved the report by the Provost and other members of Council on the inspection of the Harbour and the Piers, and authorised the Shoremaster to have the following work executed: First, to repair the head of the North Pier. Second, to re-build part of the middle of the South Pier. Third, to remove the loose stones towards the lower end of the harbour. Fourth, to obtain plans of new lanes for the Upper Quay, and one new lane on Torry Pier for the accommodation of whale fishing ships. Fifth, to obtain plans and estimates for building a small lighter for clearing away obstructions in shallow water. Sixth, to erect two new pawls, one of which to be sited in the lower basin.
