TitleAberdeen Council Register: volume 69 - extract dated 5 June 1807
DescriptionCouncil meeting, 5 June 1807
[Sederunt given]
A report was made to Council by the committee charged with establishing the Town's right to a tract of land which appeared to be part of the Town's Commonty, adjoining the Lands of Cults, Countesswells and Hazlehead, which had been advertised for sale in November 1805 by Mr Menzies of Pitfodels. Various meetings having taken place, the parties had agreed that the sale of the land should proceed, reserving to them their interests in the price or feu duties, and that this should ultimately be resolved by arbitration. An extract from the Baillie Court Book to this effect was produced. Mr Menzies had not responded and declined to submit the matter to arbitration. Therefore the Council authorised a committee of magistrates to initiate the necessary legal processes to ascertain the Town's claim. (24r - 25r)

The Council remitted to a committee of magistrates a suggestion by Messrs James Mackie, James Brebner and George Storey, shipmasters, that rules be established for the better regulation of pilots. Further, Messrs Mackie, Brebner and Storey recommended George Freeman, shipmaster, as a candidate for any post of Superintendent of that department. (25r)
