| Description | Council meeting, 27 October 1807 [Sederunt given] Following the report of the Examinators of Competitors for Bursaries, the Council admitted the following to bursaries of 4 years duration at Marischal College; Henry Esson, son of Henry Esson, son of Robert Esson in Balnacraig, and William Jollie, son of the Rev Mr Jollie, Minister at Caithness, each to one of Sir Thomas Crombie's bursaries of £8; Robert Smith, son of George Smith, glazier in Aberdeen, to one of Mr James Cargil's bursaries of £6 10 shillings; Jonathan Henry Christie, son of the Rev Alexander Christie, Episcopal Minister at Fyvie, to John Turner's bursary of 100 merks; James Downie, son of the deceased Robert Downie, flaxdresser in Aberdeen, James Ross, son of the late James Ross in Crathie, and Robert Urquhart, son of the Rev Mr Urquhart, Minister of Tough, each to one of Dr Duncan Liddel's bursaries of £5. The magistrates made their Visitation of the Harbour and Piers and reported that the timber head at the South Pier had been driven down by a storm and that part of the pier opposite the Ferry Boatman's house on the north side of the River was also in danger of giving way. They had commissioned Alexander Gildawie and William Johnston, masons, to compile a report on the subject [report engrossed]. Subsequently the Council remitted to the Provost, four Baillies, Dean of Guild, Treasurer, Shoremaster and Provost Brebner, or any three of them, the consideration of the recommendations made in the said report. The Council approved the settlement of a dispute with Mr William Forbes respecting the extension of his ropeworks into the Links. They agreed to allow this for the annual payment of £5, commencing Whitsunday 1807. (43r - 43v)
