| Description | Council meeting, 8 February 1811 [Sederunt given] The Clerk, Mr Carnegie, represented to the Council the need to appoint a successor to the late John Burnett Esq, advocate and Judge Admiral of Scotland, and for twenty years the Town's Counsel in Ordinary at the Court of Session in Edinburgh. An application for the nomination had been received from Andrew Skene Esq, advocate, and the Provost proposed Mr Hugh Lumsden, advocate. The vote carried Andrew Skene by eleven votes to seven and he was duly appointed to the office. (184r - 184v)
The Council ratified the regulations and rates of fare established for the Shore Porters by the Dean of Guild Court as proposed by Mr Hogarth, Dean of Guild, and ordered they be published [regulations and rates of fare per district of the City engrossed]. (184v - 188v)
Mr Copland, Clerk Depute, reported that the Treasurer had borrowed on 20 December 1810 £200 from the Treasurer of the Baker Mortification, and had granted bond for this and a further £300 already in his hands and that he had borrowed £320 from George Booth and had granted bond to him and his wife. The Treasurer had borrowed additional monies to pay off certain interests and principal sums in relation to the costs incurred in the building of the New Streets and other works.
