DescriptionCouncil meeting, 26 August 1811
[Sederunt given]
The Council approved the plan of the City of Aberdeen showing the Harbour Improvements with the proposed Wet and Dry Docks and other building works connected with the Harbour, agreeable to the designs of Thomas Telford, civil engineer, and drawn up by Mr John Smith, architect and Superintendent of the Town's Public Works. Further, the Council agreed to the magistrates' recommendation that the plan be engraved to permit it, along with the Council's resolutions, to be passed on to their successors in office. (197r - 197v)

The Council approved a plan and prospectus, presented to the Council with an accompanying letter from Thomas Bannerman Esq, merchant in Aberdeen, for the better provision of the widows and children of the Burgesses of Guild of Aberdeen and instructed they be engrossed in the Council Register as well as printed and circulated amongst the Burgesses of the Town. [Prospectus and plan engrossed 213r - 215v]. (197v - 198r)

The Provost reported to Council the concern expressed by the proprietors of lands in and about Tarland that the Echt and Midmar Turnpike Road be extended as far as Tarland. It was suggested that if the proprietors and others undertook to extend that part of the road west of the Hill called the Clash, the subscribers would assist in making out the east-most part from the Clash to the Tollbar at Drumlassie where the Turnpike at present terminates. Upon consideration, the Dean of Guild, a subscriber to the Turnpike and proprietor of the Lands of Easter and Wester Cairney, was empowered to subscribe £100 towards the costs of the extension.
