| Description | Council meeting, 7 May 1817 [Sederunt given] The Council empowered Mr Read, Dean of Guild, to grant a bill to Mr Andrew Davidson, advocate in Aberdeen, for the sum of £500, being part of the purchase price of Mr Davidson's lease of the eighth lot of the Lands of Easter Skene, called Mill Bowies. The bill was to be granted on condition that the Honorable William Gordon of Ellon and his agent, Mr Crombie, advocate in Aberdeen, discharged the inhibition against Mr Davidson, which was in the hands of the Dean of Guild. The Council resolved to petition the House of Commons for a repeal of the 4/6 Cottage Tax, having considered the hardship of collection from the poorer classes during the current period of general distress. The Council directed the Provost to sign a petition, and to transmit it to Mr Farquhar, Member of Parliament, for him to present it to the House of Commons. (123r) |
