| Description | Council meeting, 4 September 1817 [Sederunt given] The Council authorised Mr Read, Dean of Guild, to grant a bond to William Johnston, merchant in Aberdeen, for £1,700 in security over the lands belonging to the Dean of Guild in the Parish of Skene. The sum was required to discharge the bonds granted by the Dean of Guild to Andrew Davidson, advocate in Aberdeen, for the lease of the farm of Millbowies purchased by the Town Council in 1815; the bonds had subsequently been conveyed to John Low, writer in Stonehaven. The Council recommended to the magistrates to publish the Parliamentary notices for leave to bring a bill to levy an assessment on the trade and heritage of the burgh. The Council directed that the notices should omit details of the bill until the burgesses had considered the Council's proposals for an additional assessment and constitutional change. (143r - 143v) |
