The Council accepted the resignation of Mr George Cruden as Writing Master at the Public Writing School. The Council ordered an advertisement to be published in the Aberdeen Journal inviting candidates for the post, who were qualified to teach writing, book-keeping, navigation, geography and arithmetic, to appear in the Town Hall on 23 February 1818, bringing certificates of their moral character and specimens of their handwriting. The Council appointed Professor Copland, Mr Cruden, present Master, Mr Alexander Galen, Dr Hamilton, Mr Cruickshank, assistant to Dr Hamilton, Dr Glenny and Dr Ross as examiners of the candidates. The Council awarded Francis Craigmyle, student in the semi class at Marischall College, to one of Mrs Catharine Rolland's bursaries of £8 for one year, on the recommendation of the Faculty of Marischall College, in place of Alexander Hall, who had left the College. (158v)
