The Council remitted to the Standing Committee consideration of whether to purchase the building areas belonging to the New Streets Trustees on the north side of Union Street between Correction Wynd and Back Wynd, immediately south of the burying ground, in order to enlarge the churchyard of St Nicholas and to preserve an approach from Union Street. (193r)

The Council appointed a committee of Baillie Young, Mr William Duguid, the Dean of Guild and the Treasurer and Deacon Marshall, or any three of them, with the assistance of Messrs Smith and Gibb, to investigate the complaints made by the Tacksmen of the Town's Mills and by others that water was being abstracted from the Town's Loch and other water courses to the detriment of the Town's mills, and to report on any encroachments made on the Town's Loch and water courses.
