The Provost on behalf of the committee appointed to consider the current level of seat rents in the East and West Churches on 9 October 1821 reported that, along with the Master of Mortifications, they had inspected the seats and decided that several among them could be augmented, the respective sums marked in red ink in the margin of the two books drawn up last year for these two Churches. The Council approved of the report in view of the depressed state of the Kirk Works funds and the plan to extend the Churchyard to Union Street. (13r - 13v)
The Provost added that the committee were also of the opinion that the current prices of ground lairs in the Churchyard and the mortcloth dues should be increased of which the Council approved [table of new rates engrossed]. (13v - 14r)
The Council granted the petition from Mr Alexander Brown, City Jailer, for an increase of £25 to his annual allowance to enable him to employ an additional turnkey, on top of his current staff of two under-keepers, one being at the old Jail and the other at the Bridewell. (14r)
