The Provost reported to the Council certain proceedings between himself and the Trustees for the Creditors of the Treasury of Aberdeen for reducing the interest rate payable on the debt due by the Treasurer to four percent and for paving the way to discontinuing the Trust and restoring the management to the magistrates and Council. [Copy letter from Provost Brown to the Treasury Trustees engrossed]. As a result of these communications, a Committee was appointed to consider the subject, comprising Alexander Crombie, David Hutcheon, George Hogarth junior and William Read [report engrossed]. All which being considered, the Council approved of the proceedings and recommended to their successors in the next Council to follow up and carry into effect these measures. (73r - 75r)
The Council accorded Provost Brown a vote of thanks for his zealous and indefatigable conduct in discharging his duties as Chief Magistrate and particularly for his efforts regarding the Corporation's funds. (75r)
