| Description | COUNCIL REGISTER, VOLUME 71, FOLIOS 84v - 87v Council meeting, 1 November 1824 [Sederunt given] The Council met to appoint a successor to fill the vacant ministerial charge caused by the death of the late Rev Dr James Ross. The Council duly elected the Rev Mr James Foote, Minister at Logie Pert, with an annual stipend of £200 and instructed the formal presentation to be engrossed in the Council Register for preservation [presentation engrossed]. Witnessed by Gavin Hadden, James Milne, Alexander Stewart, James Brebner, George Thomson, Alexander Duncan, Alexander Brown, Robert Catto, Alexander Simpson, John Maitland, William Johnston, George Lyall, George Hendry, James Williams, William Spark, William Carnegie and James Hardie. (84v - 86v) The Council appointed the Provost, Baillies Milne, Stewart and Brebner, along with the Clerk, or any two of them, as a committee to intimate the Act of Election and Presentation to Mr James Foote for his acceptance, thereupon to present it to the Presbytery of Aberdeen and take the necessary legal steps to install Mr Foote. (86v) The Council appointed the Taxers and Stent Masters for the year Martinmas 1824 to Martinmas 1825: Alexander Stewart and James Brebner, two of the present Baillies; George Thomson, Dean of Guild; Robert Duthie, late Dean of Guild; Alexander Duncan, Treasurer; John Whyte, late Treasurer; Messrs Alexander Hadden, William Johnston, Robert Catto, William Catto, John Lumsden, John Maitland, Alexander Dalgarno, William Mackie, George Lyall, William Pirie and James Lamond all merchants; James Blaikie and Charles Chalmers, advocates; Deacons William Spark, watchmaker and James Williams, cooper, the two Trades councillors. The Council directed the Taxers and Stent Masters to raise the following sums: £526 10 shillings for the King's Subsidy; £60 15 shillings for the Missive Dues and expenses incurred by the Commissioners to the Convention of Royal Burghs.
