| Description | COUNCIL REGISTER, VOLUME 71, FOLIOS 87v - 89r Council meeting, 5 November 1824 [Sederunt given] Baillie John Young qualified himself as a member of Council by swearing and signing the usual oaths and taking the oath de fideli administratione officii. (87v) The Provost laid before the Council the letter of acceptance by the Rev Mr James Foote, to be one of the Town's Ministers in the East Church in place of the late Rev Dr James Ross [letter engrossed]. (87v - 88v) The Provost reported that by an Act passed in the last session of Parliament the legal standard for the Weights and Measures had been altered to establish uniformity across the country with all Burghs to comply within six months. As a result, the Council remitted to the magistrates to take the necessary steps for procuring models of the different weights and measures, the expence thereof to be paid by an assessment upon the Town's inhabitants, which is provided to be taxed for along with the King's Subsidy.
