| Description | COUNCIL REGISTER, VOLUME 71, FOLIOS 90v - 95r Council meeting, 2 December 1824 [Sederunt given] The Provost reported to the Council on the proceedings of the special meeting of the Convention of Royal Burghs, held in Edinburgh on 22 November 1824. He laid before them the resolutions moved by Mr Burness, Provost of the Burgh of Montrose, which had been carried by a majority, [resolutions engrossed], and stated that a special Committee was appointed to conduct the defence, consisting of the Provost of Edinburgh along with the Commissioners and Assessors for Edinburgh, Glasgow, Elgin, Culross, Dingwall, Jedburgh, Kinghorn, Brechin, Dundee and Montrose. Provost Hadden dissented from this and was supported by Perth, Banff, Inverury and Cupar [reasons given]. All which procedure the Council approved. (90v - 93r) The Provost reported to the Council on the various proceedings which had taken place between the respective Committees of the County and their predecessors in the Council concerning the arrangements for constructing a new bridge over the River Don, as detailed in the Act of Council of 1 September 1824. Following a meeting with the County on 12 November 1824, the Provost and Committee of Council considered that they might apply part of the savings of the mortified fund towards the building of the new bridge, subject to certain conditions [conditions engrossed]. The Council approved the proceedings on the part of the former Council and the conditions adopted by the Committee and remitted to the same to take all proper steps for obtaining an Act of Parliament.
