DescriptionCOUNCIL REGISTER, VOLUME 71, FOLIOS 166r - 168r
Council meeting, 31 August 1826
[Sederunt given]
The Provost reported that he had received a deputation from the Presbytery of Aberdeen objecting to the appointment of Mr Abercromby Gordon as Preacher in the College Church on account of the unlimited nature of his obligation to keep the Church in good repair during his incumbency as detailed in the Act of Election of 2 August 1826. Which being considered the Council agreed to make an amendment and resolved that £10 per annum be paid annually by Mr Gordon from the seat rents to the Master of Kirk and Bridge Works towards the repairs of the Church. (166r - 166v)
The Provost stated to the Council that it appeared desirable that the carriage-way on Union Street, west of the Union Bridge, be paved. Having consulted with the feuars and proprietors of the grounds and buildings on the north and south sides of Union Street, the Provost reported that they had agreed to defray the expence of paving it with square stones in front of their several properties if the magistrates and Council paid for the paving of unfeued areas and openings or cross streets and further if the Council carried out their work, the feuars re-imbursing them upon its completion. Mr John Smith, the Town's Superintendant, had presented estimates on the cost to the Town, being £1,147 10 shillings, all which the Council approved and authorised the advertising for contractors.
