The Council elected the following thirteen Burgesses to be members of the new Council for the year 1826 to 1827: James Hadden, James Milne, Alexander Hadden, Alexander Duncan, William Johnston, James Dyce, George Thomson, Robert Catto, Alexander Simpson, James Brebner, George Lyall, George Henry and Peter MacFarlane, all merchants in Aberdeen. The Council elected the following four members of the old Council to serve on the new Council: Provost Gavin Hadden, Baillie Robert Brown, Baillie Alexander Duthie and Mr Alexander Brown. (173r)
The Council elected Deacons George Smith, glazier and George Michie, cooper, to be Trades councillors. (173r)
The old and new Council, with the Convener and Deacons of Crafts (except Alexander Brown, William Lumsden and Robert Walker of the old Council and James Hadden and Alexander Hadden of the new Council, in place of whom the Council elected George Hunter, William Selbie, George Henderson, George Aiken and James Cruickshank, Burgesses of Guild, as assistants), elected the following office bearers for the year 1826 to 1827:
Alexander Brown - Provost
James Milne - Eldest Baillie
Robert Brown - Second Baillie
Alexander Duthie - Third Baillie
James Brebner - Youngest Baillie
Alexander Duncan - Dean of Guild
Robert Catto - Treasurer
George Lyall - Master of Shoreworks
George Henry - Master of Kirk and Bridge Works
James Dyce - Master of Mortifications
Peter MacFarlane - Master of the Guild Brethren's Hospital

The Council elected the said Provost Alexander Brown, Baillies Robert Brown and Alexander Duthie to be Keepers of the Keys of the Town's Charter Chest for the year 1826 to 1827. (173v)
The Council elected for the year 1826 to 1827 the Provost, four Baillies, Dean of Guild, Messrs Gavin Hadden, James Hadden, Alexander Simpson and George Thomson to be Commissioners of Infeftments; and the same gentlemen with the two Trades councillors to be Auditors of the Town's Accounts. On the motion of Baillie Duthie, a vote of thanks was passed for Provost Gavin Hadden for his uniform rectitude and diligence in carrying out his duties as Chief Magistrate for the previous two years. (174r) |
