Administrative HistoryIn 1800 a bill for Commuting the Statute Labour of the County of Aberdeen was passed. Those who served as trustees under the then Turnpike Act were translated to the post of Trustees for the Commutation of Statute Labour, exercising their duties through a system of districts [see minute book of the Commissioners of Supply for the County of Aberdeen, 1799-1808, p25 ff]. The County was divided into eight districts which are to be limited and bounded by the eight presbyteries [ibid p66]. In 1865 a new bill was passed, the 'Aberdeenshire Roads Act', which confirmed the division of the County into eight districts.

It appears that a ninth commutation roads district, for Aberdeen Town, existed (covering parts of the parishes of Old Machar, Peterculter, Newhills and Banchory Devenick).
