DescriptionRubislaw Special School (located at 49 King's Gate) opened in May 1908 in the former Rubislaw School buildings. By 1918 the school an additional Ruthrieston Section was operating and the school was known as Rubislaw Ruthieston Special School.

The record books record pupil's name, date of birth, date of admittance/leaving and IQ; dated entries about pupil under the following headings: family history, character and habits, attendance, height and weight, and performance in reading, writing, arithmetic and handwork. occasionally there are entries about the pupil's destination after school. Written 1920s - early 1930s, about children born between 1904 and 1921.

Book cover records school, scholar's name, department (either "Mentally Defective" or "Backward") and sometimes date supplied and teacher's name.

Interleaved with other forms e.g. AEA schedule of inquiry about children believed to be "mentally defective"; medical record; attendance record; and results of Winch Test ("Mental Test for Backward and Defective Children").
