Administrative HistoryThe firm of Glegg and Thomson was established around 1850 by Robert Glegg and James Thomson. The firm is first listed in Post Office Directories in 1856. It passed to Robert's son James Cowan Glegg, then his son James L. Clegg and his sons Robert and Colin.

Originally based at 176 George Street, the company was later located at 255 and 259 George Street.

James Cowan Glegg was secretary of the North of Scotland Iron Merchants Stockholders Association.
