Label reads: ""The cliffs of the bow to the North of Port Erroll with the massive ruins of New Slains Castle. First built on this site at the end of the sixteenth century by Francis Ninth Earl of Erroll to replace the old castle of Slains which had been destroyed by James VI in 1594, The New Slains Castle was several times reconstructed and the present ruins mainly date from 1836."
