Label reads: ""The Sea Front of ruined Slains Castle at Bowness with its corner keep and range of windows with a magnificent sea view. The castle was rebuilt several times since its first erection at the end of the sixteenth century. Boswell and Johnson visited it and spent the night."

Label reads: ""The cliffs of the bow to the North of Port Erroll with the massive ruins of New Slains Castle. First built on this site at the end of the sixteenth century by Francis Ninth Earl of Erroll to replace the old castle of Slains which had been destroyed by James VI in 1594, The New Slains Castle was several times reconstructed and the present ruins mainly date from 1836."
