Calderon, Weston Lodge, 16, Grove End Road, North West London, asking him if he is really annoyed about an attack on Pettie in the 'World', as Calderon does not know anything about it, he has only ever seen the paper when he has been at the dentist, the last time he saw it someone had sent it to him because in it he, Hart and Charles Landseer were called imbeciles, he now no longer looks at it even at the dentist's, Pettie can stand up to it, everyone clean is at risk of having mud thrown at them, a couple of pretend stories about Macdonald, delighted with their Christmas card, Faed is progressing with his portrait for Macdonald's collection, there should be a portrait of Mr. Belts, perhaps by Baron Huddleston, Macdonald seems to think that the trial will do harm but Calderon does not think so, it will be good for the reputation of real sculptors, artists have found the whole thing amusing, art schools will mend it, as they are designed to produce not artists but people who can understand art, 'Art is a new thing in England', but it will soon learn, 7 January 1883
