DescriptionLetter dated 25 November 1872 to Macdonald from George Reid, R.S.A., Tullichewan Castle, Dunbartonshire, with apologies for lateness of letter, thanks for a view of Samuel Palmer's letter, suspicion that he has a very small circle of admirers, enclosing letters from McKay and Chalmers, which Reid asks Macdonald to forward to John Forbes White, progress with Mr. Campbell's portrait, hopes of sending it to the next Glasgow exhibition as Campbell is one of the directors, intentions of returning home via Mr Mackintosh in Auchterarder, the kindness of the Campbells, though they are friends of Robert Horne, account of the Campbells' visit to stay with Horne in a country house near Melrose, where he insisted on taking everyone on closely-controlled guided tours of the local places of interest, distress at news of Daniel Cottier's illness and his departure for Strathpeffer, illness of Mr. Walker [possibly Alexander Walker, Dean of Guild], Reid has been asked to paint a portrait of the ex-Provost of Partick but belatedly discovered that the subject was in fact dead, hopes of seeing Douglas Murray and Rev. Alexander Thomson in Aberdeen on his return.
