Johnston has returned, apologies that he has not yet given Macdonald a picture, news of Maels' picture at the Royal Academy, but an insult to Pettie by the hangers, Macdonald's intended trip to London, comments on some print purchased by Macdonald and a humorous improvement on it, mention of a Birmingham man, possibly a collector, and caution advised, hopes to meet Archy in Paris, mention of portraits of Major Scott and his child, 'I blame Sir Walter Scott and the members of the Alpine Club and Cockney tourists for propogating most erroneously and foolishly sentimental ideas about mountains - ask the people who live amongst them what they think of them? you will hear a different story'. |
