Alexander Thomson, illness of Sir R. Christison, bad fall suffered by Hugh Cameron's mother, hoping for news of Mr. Paton in Montrose, recovery of John Forbes White, visit from Professor Smith [possibly William Robertson Smith, 1846 - 1894], increasing frailty of Sir George Harvey, two large paintings in the exhibition by Sir Noel Paton and Chalmers will mean bad hanging, 'the gas light is good for Sir Noel, and plays the mischief with Chalmers. It is lying upon him like a wet blanket', hopes for improvement in Mrs. Macdonald's health, coolness between Robert Horne and Hugh Cameron.
