The account book is a personal one kept by Mrs Barbara Niven or Leslie recording her expenses on postage stamps, purchase of food (e.g. yellow or finan haddock), train journeys, expenses incurred on journeys, money given to the poor or disabled and household items e.g. a heather besom, soling shoes, and payments to estate staff e.g. the gamekeeper. It records her expenses from the death of her husband in 1861 to just before her own death |
