Fairlie, Ferguson & Co. ... the name of the ship is the Good Hope', reference to Mrs. Berry's pregnancy (George Berry's wife), reference possibly to a quarrel between Emma and Mary Brodie, news of Mrs. Thomson and Dr. Henderson, 'His lady is at Craigmile. I saw a most splendid lace dress that Mrs. Gordon was working for her, can you fancy greater folly, except she intends commencing young lady again.', her sympathy for the Sutherthirds[?] and Eliza, greetings to all at Auchterless, 8 October 1821
