Extracts from school log books: 1 June 1896: Copy of H.M.Inspector's Report: "this handsome and well equipped new school has been built by the School Board of Tarves to supply accommodation for those children who went formerly from that district to the Inverebrie Public School which is now closed"
17 Aug 1907: "Holiday on Wednesday, on account of Lord Haddo's home coming"
17 May 1907: "A gift of 160 books and four maps and a pointer has been received from J. Coats Jun. Esq. Ferguslie House, Paisley"
22 May 1908:" A gift of Harmsworth's Encyclopaedia (in 10 volumes with a bookcase) had just been received in connection with the Coats School Library from Alex. Gardner Esq/Publisher, Paisley".
1 July 1910: " Had letter from Paisley today saying that Mr. James Coats of Ferguslie House would send bags for carrying each child's books if the gift would be acceptable".
13 Jan 1911: " On wednesday afternoon the school bags were presented by Mr. James Coats Jnr, Paisley , were handed out to the scholars by Mr. S. Davidson, Member of the School Board".
September 1939: Glasgow evacuees enrolled.
March 22 1962 was the official opening of the new primary school in Ellon.
1 Mar 1963: "It was noted from today's Press and Journal that the recommendation to close Auchedly School has already been approved by the Scottish Secretary".
1 Nov 1963: "The Head Teacher was yesterday appointed to be Head Teacher of Oyne School, taking up duty on a date to be arranged" (later decided on 7 Jan 1964)
20 Dec 1963: (Final School Party) ".....Mr. George Leslie then presented Mr. George Burr who has been a member of the school committee for 62 years and the treasurer for 25 years with a paraffin heater (his home has no electricity)".
School then closed for last time. Building sold in 1970. |
