Closed 1972 Extracts from School log book 1902- 1942: 28th March 1902: The school was closed a quarter of an hour earlier this afternoon to allow for preparations being made for a concert in aid of the Hot Dinners Fund. 3rd June 1902: The school was closed during the afternoon in recognition of the Peace Proclamation. 26th June 1902: The school was closed today and will be closed tomorrow for Coronation holidays 16th April 1903: The pupils of the Senior Division are frequently absent - kept at home for work. The reason adduced for this by several respectable heads of families of the farming class, whose children in the Junior room attend most regularly, is, that anything like good hired hands are so expensive and scarce, that they were obliged to keep the bigger ones at home to work on certain occasions. 30th June 1903: Maggie Nichol a pupil in the Advanced Department, has, in open competition to the whole parish, been successful in gaining the pupil-teachership of the school. 7th January 1904: Soup kitchen started. About 100 children are taking dinners. 20th January 1904: The school opened today at 9-15am and closed at 1-15pm. Only 5 to 10 minutes of interval were given. A ploughing match was being held during the day in the immediate vicinity and to encourage pupils who would otherwise be absent to attend school, the above arrangement was made. The attendance was good. 4th October 1904: Rev. Mr. Duncan, The Manse, Auchterless, & Mr. Smith, Badenscoth, introduced the new teacher Mr. G. Copland M.A. |
