| Administrative History | Cults School was built in 1897 and opened 16 August 1897. In 1953 the secondary roll fell to 6 pupils and the school became a primary school only. Secondary pupils were sent to Culter school (see ED/GR6S/A20).
Cults Academy was built in Peterculter parish for Aberdeen County Council in 1966 to replace Cults Primary and the secondary department of Culter School. The pupils moved to the new school at the end of November 1966, although the official opening by Dr Dickson was not until 23 March 1967.
The records therefore cover the following periods:
- when the school had both primary and secondary pupils (known as Cults School);
- when it was a primary school only between 1953 - 1966, still known as Cults School (admissions for this period are in ED/GR6S/A22/2/1);
- the period from 1966-1974 when it was a newly built academy catering for both primary and secondary age pupils (primary admissions for this period are in the Cults Primary collection ED/GR6S/A22/2/2-4); and
- from 1973 when it became secondary only after a new primary school for the area opened (see ED/GR6S/A22).
