Administrative History | In September 1873 Alford Village Boys School and Alford Female School were combined and the new school opened 6th October 1873 as Alford Village Mixed Public School. This was located at the east end of the Main Street. New buildings were built on Greystone Road and opened 24th August 1927 (see log book GR6S/G1/1/2 and plans at GBM/1920/18/1) soon after becoming Alford H.G. Public School. In 1971 it became a six year comprehensive and was renamed Alford Academy, with a separate Primary School (ED/GR6S/G2). Alford Academy moved to a new Community Campus on Greystone Road in October 2015.
Alford School Board Minute Book 1873 -1891: 1 September 1873: "....the Board propose to combine the Schools for Boys and Girls and Infants under Mr. Todd, with an Assistant Female teacher...." (School to be called Alford Village Mixed Public School).
29 September 1873: "The Board resolved that the public school in the village of Alford shall be opened on Monday the 6th day of October next at ten o'clock a.m and the public school at Gallowhill as soon thereafter as the repairs are completed."
4 April 1907: "Mr Innes asked to leave to approach Mr. Coats, Ferguslie, for a gift of books to the School. The Board while heartily approving of this, directed that Mr. Innes should first confer with Mr. Mccreadie with a view that both schools might be benefitted."
