Administrative History | The Bequest of George Christie, Merchant in Glasgow [referred to by Banff Town Council as trustees of the mortification as the Glasgow Bequest] was established by a Trust Disposition of Glasgow, 28th October 1836. The remainder of the estate was transferred to the Mortification's trustees - Thomas Richardson, painter in Banff, the two senior Baillies of the Burgh of Banff, and the ministers of Banff Parish and Ord Chapel of Ease. The interest of the Trust was to be bestowed on "poor persons of respectable character" above fifty years of age in the Parish of Marnoch or in the District of Ord. Claims from relatives of George Christie are to be preferred, whatever their age or place of residence. Information in the first minute book shows that an annuity was paid out to a relative of Christie's residing in Canada. |
