Administrative History | Duff House was built between 1735 and 1741 for William Duff, Lord Braco (later 1st Earl Fife). The Duff family gave up Duf House in 1906, gifting it to the towns of Banff and Macduff in 1907. The house was adapted for use as a hotel by Duff House Limited (1911-13), sanatorium (1913-1923) and hotel (1923-1928). After military use in the Second World War the house fell into disrepair.
Duff house reopened in 1995 as a country house gallery.
