TitleStonehaven Burgh: Minute of Election of Baillies of Stonehaven
Description"At a General Meeting of the Feuars of the burgh of Stonehaven held within the town hall the fourth day of October 1826, called by advertisement through the town, and by circular letters to the individual feuars,for the purpose of naming proper persons to be presented to the superiors for election as Baillies for the ensuing year. Present- Peter Christian, Writer, Stonehaven; James Officer, Corn Merchant there; John Brand, Writer there; William Strachan, Shoemaker there; William Bridgeford, Manufacturer there; James Tindal, Writer there; John Forbes, Mason there; James Falconer, Mariner there; William Brebner, Merchant there; James Brown, Whitefisher there; Peter Christie, Ropemaker there; Peter Kennth residing there; James Alexander, Mariner there; William Melvil, Schoolmaster there. The said Peter Christian was electe preses, and authorised to sign the minutes of the meeting. The preses stated the purpose for which the meeting was called and laid before those present the minute book of the proceedings of the baillies and others in office during the last year, and also the Treasurer's account book, containing a state of the receipts and disbursements during that time for the information of all concerned. The minutes of the proceedings were read over to the meeting, and the situation of the town's affairs particularly stated and explained; and it was intimated that if any farther information or explanation was required, it would be immediately given, and that the account book would remain in the clerk's hands for the inspection of those interested. The meeting expressed its satisfaction with the information given, and with the proceedings of the magistrates and council, and resolved to proceed to the business of the day, namely, he making up of a list of Feuars to be presented to the superior for the election of two Baillies for the ensuing year, agreeably to the charter of the burgh. The meeting then unanimously resolved to present for that purpose the four feuars after named viz: Peter Christian, Writer, Stonehaven; James Officer, Merchant there; William Strachan, Shoemaker there; and William Bridgeford, Manufacturer there. Extracted from the minutes of the meeting by Mr. Tindal, Clerk. On behalf of the Trustees of the late Viscount Keith, approve of Messrs Peter Christian and James Officer as Baillies of Stonehaven.
