DescriptionIn two parts.
1. Proceedings and minutes on the petition and complaint of John Forbes, Mason in Stonehaven and proprietor of the Swan Inn near the shore against William Nicol, Sawyer in Stonehaven and occupier of the middle flat of the second house and Jean Scott his spouse.
2. Petition & Complaint John Forbes and Procurator Fiscal against William Nicol and his spouse, 1828. Petition states that Nicol and his wife Jean have been in the daily practice of receiving improper lodgers. Nicol and wife occupied the middle flat of a house with a kitchen and have done so since Whitsunday last. These lodgers have been annoying their neighbours and they have been keeping a disorderly house. Also alledges that Jean Scott has been in the practice of threatening bodily harm to Jean Lees spouse of Robert Lees, Sailor in Stonehaven another inhabitant of the said house, calling her by unseemly names and swearing to take her life. Nicol and his wife are also guilty of the daily practice of collecting mobs of riotous and disorderly people in about the house who fight, brawl, and make noise to the detriment of their neighbours. Nicol and wife face a 20 shilling fine and a caution to keep the peace and are also liable for the expense of the application against them.
