TitleStonehaven Burgh: Complaint from Fiscal of Stonehaven
DescriptionIn four parts. 1. Petition and complaint of George Reid procurator fiscal of Stonehaven: "that on Sunday the 20th current about oneo'clock in the morning two people came to the Post Office of said town and loudly knocking at the door thereof awakened John Lawson, Post Master. That on being questioned by Mr. Lawson on the cause of their disturbing him at that time of night, they informed him they were two mariners who had been saved from a vessel, the Jean of Aberdeen which had been wrecked that night about a mile to the south end of Stonehaven and that they wished to put two letters into the mail for Aberdeen, in order to acquaint the owners of said vessel of this fate. That the said Post Master from the extreme violence of the weather, for it then blew a dreadful storm of wind accompanied with rain from the south eas, was induced to relive their lamentable story, and wishing to give every aid in his power to forward the intelligence to those concerned, accordingly arose, opened the (?) and put the letters therein."
