Administrative History | The fund was formed at the end of the Second World War in 1945, Administered by Provost and Magistrates of Stonehaven, funds were raised via Sports Days, dances and a gala held by the Golf Club. When fundraising ceased in February 1946, the fund stood around £1138. The fund paid for inscription of names of men who had lost their lives in the Second World War onto the existing Stonehaven War Memorial on Black Hill. The remainder of the fund formed a benevolent fund for the benefit of ex-servicemen and the dependents of servicemen who had lost their lives. By 1973 it stood around £500 (Aberdeen Press and Journal - Friday 09 February 1973, page 16). It was also known as the Welcome Home Fund. |
