Administrative HistoryThe Elder Fund for the Benefit of the Poor of Stonehaven was set up in November 1915 by the will of James Elder, which left the residue of his estate to the needy and poor of Stonehaven. It was registered with the Charity Commission in May 1925 to benefit the poor of Stonehaven.
It was managed by five Trustees, three of which were to be the Provost and Bailies of the Burgh of Stonehaven, and the remaining two representative trustees had to be women.
Applicants had to be resident in Stonehaven for at least five years.
By the 1970s and 1980s the grant was £2.
The fund is now (as of 2019) administered by Aberdeenshire Council.
