Administrative History | Public Assistance Committee Area 5 (Longside) covered the parishes of Peterhead Landward, Longside, St. Fergus, and Crimond. It was administered jointly with Area 4 (Peterhead), with one shared Public Assistance Officer. Along with area 9 (Cruden), it was overseen by the Public Assistance Area Committee 5 (initially known as the Peterhead (Landward) and St Fergus Public Assistance Sub-Committee). The parish of Cruden was added to the Area in April 1932, and removed in June 1936. Its office was at Peterhead.
When the Public Assistance Areas were rearranged in the summer of 1947, Areas 4, 5 and 6 merged to form Area 2 (Peterhead), with three sub-committees: sub-committee No.1, covering the Peterhead Home and Peterhead Burgh (see AC/3/16/3); sub-committee No. 2 covering the parishes of Peterhead Landward, Longside, St Fergus and Crimond; and sub-committee No. 3 covering the Turfhill and Old Deer Homes and the parishes of Old Deer and New Deer. |
