| Administrative History | Portknockie Special Water Supply District, in the parish of Rathven, was formed in 1890, with a starting assessment of 1s. 2 3/4d. in the pound. A Special Scavenging District was proposed in 1896 by Banff District Committee and approved by the County Council, and in the same year they approved a loan for waterworks of £220. In 1902 a Special Drainage District was formed, and borrowed £1490 to set up a drainage scheme, and two years later the Water District borrowed £370 to lay new street mains, wells and fire hydrants. All the districts were extended in 1909, and a further £250 was borrowed for waterworks. In 1912, the three Special Districts applied for Portknockie to become a Police Burgh: this was approved, and the assets of the Special Districts were transferred to the new burgh on 22 November 1912. |
