Administrative History | Nellfield Cemetery, situated on Great Western Road near its junction with Holburn Street in Aberdeen, was laid out in 1834. Until the construction of Allenvale cemetery in 1874, Nellfield was the main burial ground for the western part of the city and was the place of interment for the City's poor (see BR/NF/7).
Initially a private cemetery established by William Wood, it was later owned by the Aberdeen Baker's Incorporation until being taken over by the Aberdeen District Council in January 1978 (along with Springbank Cemetery).
The cemetery is divided into three sections: 1 or A, the original part of the cemetery; 2 or B, opened c. 1863; and section 3 or C, opened c.1880. is divided into three sections. |
